you try waiting this long
hello faithful reader's of emma's blog. I am Amy, your replacement blogger for the day. Your regular young&foolish host claims she is too sick to write this entry (as she has just eaten an unhealthy portion of maccas' evil meat), but would rather it go documented regardless. So, enter me, Emma's companion to last night's gig & Gyroscope madcrazyloser fan, to fill you in on the goodness that was the 'scope themselves at Northcote Social Club.
So i'll skip the boring details of, we met, got in car, drove to venue, arrived at exactly 9.23pm (Isabel Time) etc. & go straight to the good bits. As we were quite the nerdy-keen bunch (we being emma, alex, will & myself) we were the first, bar roadies & such, to enter the band room. Nerdiness has its rewards however, because we landed ourselves the best seats in the house (or the only seats, right on the side) which allowed us to stand & have a sweet view over all the sweaty, crowded, moshing heads. Northcote Social Club is about as big as the average living room & fashioned in such a way to make it obviously appear as if you are literally watching a band from the comfort of your own home. The downside; evil airconditioning. I suffered hypothermia with a side of constant shivering from the overpowering breeze up my back. Good times.
The snazziest part of the night was quite possibly the curtain which was drawn around the stage before Gyroscope came on. Makes for a more mysterious show, indeed. Emma & I killed the time by imagining the most cock-rock way of opening the show involving these stage curtains.
Finally when the curtains were removed the band appeared. I was as giddy as a school girl as I hadn't seen the wonderful lads in about 3 or 4 years (damn tours coinciding with VCE). They opened with Slow Dance, & already were fired up, making use of the small stage about as big as a king sized bed. Safe Forever was next, a personal favourite of mine, & the intense thrashing about both on stage & in the crowd from the band gave me such a rush that I feared an impending heart attack. Front-man Daniel was impulsive & energetic, jumping into the crowd at any given opportunity & spraying copious mouthfuls of water wherever possible. Ah, rockstars.
The setlist, for my own sake, was;
Slow Dance
Beware Wolf
Safe Forever
Are you getting any better?
mistakes & ladders
Raindrops
22 of 3
Confidence in Confidentiality
Take This For Granted
Don't Look Now..
dream vs scream
midnight express
driving for the storm
doctor doctor
fast girl
encore:
Fire Away
..Lightning..
I literally cannot put into words how amazing this band is, but I can say however that I would rank this gig up with the likes of Muse at the Hifi bar (& those of you who know me know this is a fairly huge call..)
We were fortunate enough to meet the band afterward. Zoran the guitar master was one of the nicest muso's I have come across. He was happy to have a chat with both me & Em & was generally friendly to anyone who approached him.
The frontman extroadinaire Daniel was next, & he was kind enough offer me a spot on the doorlist for tonights sold out show when I mentioned I wasn't originally attending due to lack of tickets. Problem; solved, Daniel; awesome.
Wish me luck for tonight kiddies as I will brave the in-crowd of the Gyro world & enter the gig without a ticket.
That is all. Thank-you for reading, it's been a pleasure.
over&out.
